Green light for Gap safety Cameras to alert police
AN ELABORATE plan to stop people throwing themselves off Sydney's most notorious suicide spot, The Gap, could get the green light tomorrow.
More than $2million would be spent on surveillance cameras, security lighting, a safety phone and an anti-climb cliff-top barrier at the Watsons Bay lookout, where it is believed about 50 people take their own lives each year.
Some of the funds will be provided by Woollahra Council, which will put the proposal to the vote tomorrow night after almost two years consulting with specialist architects, police, mental health experts and residents.
